I don't know to be honest. Always seemed like an approriate title though, at least for me. Evokes nicely that wonderful sense of top hats, monocles, cigar fumes, industrial progress and Sherlock Holmes chasing Jack the Ripper down cobbled streets. Very Victoriana.

It fits the zeitgeist of the steampunk era that Arcanum inhabits, or at least it does to me.

From what I know of the time period in which Arcanum takes place, and the upper house parliament of the UK being called The House of Lords, I figured it was just an appropriate name, considering the Victorian era being named for Queen Victoria.
