You guys sometimes talk about bugs in Arcanum, but that really confuses me. I never encountered any bugs in the game, nor did it ever crash my computer. What's up with that? Was I just really lucky? Or too stupid to notice any bugs?

More like you didn't recognise them. If there was a dialogue error, broken quest, graphical glitch, basically anything happening that wasn't supposed to, that's a bug. Some people encountered more bugs than others (it's in the nature of bugs to do that), but like I said you have to know what to look for. Most bugs you never run across, or don't affect you, for a variety of reasons. You can bet the developers hear all about them from irate players though :D.

Also depends when you started playing the game. If you got the Arcanum, installed it and used the latest patch, well, there aren't that many bugs after that. But unpatched, that thing is a friggin nightmare.

In the patched game most remaining bugs are things you don't see or hear. Search here & on hints & tips for the missing dialog thread. There are some dialog sound files that are never played. Then there are the items that show uses that you can't access. The Amulett of Persuasion & the Negotiator's Ring spring to mind.

In the unpatched game, the biggest one I know of; Plojian's Amulett is magic. The Magic Allegry PC cannot even pick it up. To finish the game he must force Vendigroth.

Snowmane, "Back In The Day", when I was just a snot-faced newbie, this was the hottest subject since porn. Jinxed was adamant about the amount of bugs in the game, I think Jarinor and Sheriff Fatman swore that the game was playable without the average gamer ever even seeing a bug. I know I didn't. (Well, Magnus was a little buggy... but that was it.) To hear Jinxed tell it, Arcanum only works 12% of the time, and even then it's buggy as hell. I had a slightly more enjoyable experience with the game. :)

I played the game completely unpatched, and I had no problems. Or, if I did, I really quickly forgot about them, so they obviously weren't a big deal for me.

Edit: Thinking about it, I think I encountered a bug in that dialogue sometimes got 'stuck'. But I'm pretty sure that was the only bug that I ever saw.

I had some weird occurences when I summoned more than one Ogre, but that was the only bug I ever saw. ( I played patched, of course).

The first and one of the worst unpatched bugs was the followers recognising undead skeletons as friendly creatures. For example, you would go into the castle in Ashbury with your friends, come out with everyone (even the dog) giving you the weard eye. Second was the "are you sure you want to quit" game save corruption bug. Which happened mostly around level 35. Many people (including me) were sometimes warped into some unknown place on the worldmap, naked with some other naked shopekeeper. (it looked to be a representation of the first time you buy stuff before the game starts)

Yeah, back in the day, Jinxed and I had huge debates/arguments/flame wars over this. He was jinxed, so to speak, with a large quantity of bugs when playing the game. I was not. I actually completed the game a couple of times no problems without patching it.

A week? That's hardly a grave digger, more like waking up from a bad dream. :p
