Hello Everyone!
Here's a nifty set of custom portraits I've made for Arcanum.
I actually just started playing for the first time! I've seen the game years ago on store shelves, but it went quickly and became quite hard to find. Now that I finally have it,I couldn't resist putting together my own portrait pack. I hope everyone likes them. Here are a few samples:
You can download the whole set here:

Thanks everyone... enjoy.

You know, maybe we should host that pack. _________________ If you can't be a good example, strive to be a horrible warning. |

Thanks guys I'm really glad you like them.
And for the welcome rroyo!
Spiffy: I suppose I could, but finding people that look like Half Orcs is gonna' be pretty tough. I could probably work up some of the other races though. Did you have any one race in particular you need in the mean time?
Dark Elf: Please, feel free! I don't have a problem with that at all, I consider it a huge compliment, seriously!
Thanks again everyone!!! |

Right then, I'll put it up as soon as... well.. I get around to it. But it sure is getting its place in the download section. Great work, DarkSentinel. _________________ “Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity”

I don't need any, I just think it would be pretty sweet to have these for every race |

Half orcs are easy. Find someone really ugly, make them grow sideburns, take the photos and then photoshop their ears.
Half ogres... Got any gigantic skinhead friends?
Anyway, the protraits are great. _________________ and when I reach the other side

I'll see what I can do. What could be very interesting, maybe being a bit advantageous, is to create an entire portrait replacement pack, including NPC's. If someone could write an installer, they could completely replace all the portraits in the game. Perhaps with a bit of help, the portrait making can be split. I created a template and photoshop actions to automate my antiquing method. Which I could give to a few people to create the portraits.
We could even vote on which ones get placed in. Just an idea.

Great work, DarkSentinel. |
No worries, and thanks! It makes me happy to know you guys like them that much.

Maybe I can work something out there, if I do create something decent i'll post it. |

Disturbingly, some of the half-orc portraits were modelled after the staff on Troika. Whatever prejudices you may have concerning game developers are absolutely true. _________________ If you can't be a good example, strive to be a horrible warning. |

Well, I have to admit that the half orc protraits look like ordinary people to me, except for the pointy ears and the greenish hue... Some of them look better than some of human portraits in the game.
Seriously... What's this? Alcoholics anonymous?

True, but frankly, what I like about Arcanum's portraits is that they actually look like real people, none of that supermodel rubbish that's otherwise prevalent in games of every flavour. _________________ If you can't be a good example, strive to be a horrible warning. |

Don't get me wrong. Arcanum portraits are great. But some of them are simply ugly and that's a fact.
And Joe, my friend over there is a perfect example. I played once a human alcoholic. My inventory was stacked with wine.
Guess which portrait I chose? _________________ and when I reach the other side

It's also a fact that a rather substantial portion of the human population is ugly and/or alcoholics, so there you go. _________________ If you can't be a good example, strive to be a horrible warning. |

I have to also agree that I rather like the Arcanum portraits for looking like regular folk.
I would have actually preferred Arcanum to have less races. In fact I would have loved it if it was humans only. I rather liked the beginning of Hellboy with the Nazi sorcerer and creatures brought back from the underworld.
Even a bit of Sky captain and the world of tomorrow.
Which brings me to this new portrait:
Thanks to Ron Perlman, The creators of Hellboy, and the movie industry.
In 256 .bmp format ready to add to your game. I'll add it to the pack once I have created a few more.

He looks like a half-ogre to me.
Nice use of the goggles. _________________ If you can't go through a problem, go over it, under it, or around it. |

Hellboy fits nicely with the theme seeing as it's got a surprising amount of Steampunk technology thrown in despite the fact that it's supposed to be modern world. _________________ If you can't be a good example, strive to be a horrible warning. |

Dark Elf your right, thats my impression of Hellboy as well.
Thanks rroyo! Finding the goggles to fit the right head and face position took a bit of effort. I thought it was funny to pop them right over his apendages
Just a few more I did today:
Oger Male
Orc Male
These two took quite a bit more photoshop then Hellboy.
ANY
The last one here is another from Hellboy.
I worked up another Dwarf Male and Human Male (Guy Pearce from "The Time Machine"), which I'll add to the pack once I can create some Elves.
Female Half Ogers and Half Orcs are going to be insane, I'm not sure if I should even attempt it. |

The nazi-cyborg (whatever) shouldn't be a PC portrait. _________________ My favourite:

Lets see what the others think. I have no problem making it NPC only.
In my perspective I can't see why someone would not want to use it as a PC. Any masked portrait is viable in my opinion, as it allows you to use it for just about any race and sometimes gender.
My only hesitation on using it for a PC would be because he looks quite the bad guy part. No hero like, even for the would-be types. Although, some of the character PC histories would fit this portrait.
I couldn't resist uploading this one:
Guy Pearce
I wish the character portraits in Arcanum where more prominent then they are. |

Too bad we don't have items to match the masked guy.
That would be one badass character.
Since you obviously have photoshop, I have to ask, why your elves don't have pointy ears? Liquify would do the trick... _________________ and when I reach the other side
