|
|
Around a week ago I decided to make the definite compilation of all Easter eggs and pop-culture references found in Arcanum, since it turned out nobody ever bothered to make one. And here it finally is. Some of the things mentioned in this article could be common knowledge, some are rare, and some were never seen before. This isn't a complete list, however, it's obvious that there will be new additions, so I encourage everyone to contribute by sending me their finds.
Have a good read! |

| Added a few more references and a large section dedicated to the epitaphs found in Arcanum's cemeteries. |

That's quite the list... I'll definitely go hunting for the smurf village now.

| And don't forget that Arronax is the narrator of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. |

It's hard to call the fact, that a voice actor did work somewhere else besides a particular game an easter egg for that game. Here's an easter egg on Tim Cain, Leonard Boyarsky and Jason Anderson - they worked on Fallout! Woohoo! _________________

He's not talking about a voice actor. How can you not know this famous book?
Regardless, I don't think that Professor Pierre Aronnax is in any way related to Arcanum's Arronax. |

Ah, indeed have I failed in this situation. It would be impossible not to hear about the book, yet I have yet to find enough motivation to familiarise myself closer with Verne's writings, with reading "A Journey to the Centre of the Earth" being on my "to do" list.
Regardless, even if professor Pierre Aronnax isn't in any way related to Arcanum's Arronax in personality nor actions, the very name could have been borrowed from the book. Someone from the staff could encounter it, think "Hey, that sounds nice, why not place it in our game?" and then do so. I believe that's how Arroyo appeared in Fallout 2. _________________

However, without any verification, I don't think such a fact is worth including. _________________

Quite honestly, I think it would be difficult for it not to be intentional. Arronax (or Aronnax) is hardly a common name for a character, and Verne is arguably the most significant inspiration for the steampunk genre. I'm sure Troika did some reading during the design phase.
That being said, I definitely didn't mean to bring such controversy to a great list. |

While picking up a package for an alchemist named Jongle Donne, the shopkeeper in Dernholm tells you, "That wizard is just a crazy old man," quoting Owen Lars from Episode IV.
The main character's companion and sidekick Virgil encounters his old mentor who turned him from a life of petty thievery, a priest named Father Joachim. In the good path, this encounter provides helpful information. In the evil path, Joachim appears to make a desperate plea for Virgil to stop, and when he refuses, tries to stand in his way. One of Virgil's taunts to Joachim is "Your powers are weak, old man," quoting Darth Vader from Episode IV. |

Unified Kingdom maybe United Kingdom.
Caladon might refer to Jerusalem cuz it's said that's the house Nasrudin's corpse. And Jerusalem it's the house of Jesus corpse.
Journey to the Center of Arcanum...once again Jules Verne - Journey to the Center of the Earth... |

There's no such thing as a journey to the center of Arcanum, I believe. If your talking about the Void, that is most propably supposed to be a different dimension, a parallel universe, that sort of thing. _________________

I beg to differ.
Or come to think of it, there is no such thing, but the reference is real. _________________ I am not insane, this I can document.
