So a hole has rusted out in one of my radiators this morning, and what should be a simple case of getting my landlord on it is not because my landlord is incredibly lazy and it will probably take him at least a week to do anything about it. Yahoo answers says the entire thing needs to be replaced, still that doesn't change the fact I'm going to have a hole in my radiator for - at the bare minimum - a few days.

Anyone have any advice for a stopgap solution? Anyone ever had the same problem?

If it's a temporary solution I suppose you could just patch it up with some duct tape or whatever you have at hand.

Of course, should you meet the standards laid out in your very own "Have you ever..." thread, you should be able to plug the hole by other means.

I just can't get behind the idea that a Northern European nation sees it fit to equip their houses with single pane windows, inadequate/nonexistent insulation and just enough heating to avoid frost heaves in the fucking toilet. I once spent six weeks in England, and when you have water running down the inside of your windows, when shelves on the walls function as efficient beer coolers and when it's so damp you feel the need to squeeze the water out of your linen prior to going to bed - well, you get to understand where that stiff upper lip comes from.

Where on earth did you stay? Was the house derelict or something? I know my flat isn't that great, but it's certainly nothing like that! Likewise neither have the other 5 or 6 houses been that I've lived in in the past.
