I need suggestions for the title of my thesis. Actually an idea of what I should do. For those who already had their shares of Thesis Writing, what did you did?
Ah, al, theses tend to be tens of thousands of words, and on a specific subject. It's not the sort of thing you ask for an idea about, like a short story. If you want help on this (which is a pretty stupid place to ask methinks), then we're going to need a helluva lot more information than "I need an idea for a thesis", because that question only lends itself to hundreds upon hundreds of possible answers that we can think of off the top of our heads. It's really one of those questions with a near infinite amount of answers, so how about you narrow it down a little?
What are your areas of study/interest, Al, other than computers, and which areas of computers science in particular do you enjoy? Programming? Networks? AI?
So, maybe you should pick and area of the web to look at. It extends into almost every walk of life, now, so you shouldn't have much trouble picking finding options for a focus. What about: [The Web's Impact on] - the music industry? - health awareness? - education? - cultural exchange? - the environment? - political transparency? Once you've picked one, work out an angle.
Just who are you doing this thesis for al? It's not like people just tend to say "write a thesis now"...You could also look at the proliferation of absolute crap on the Internet.
Al maybe you could include this forum as a an example or something in your thesis , something to do with web developement right ? Does the Great Calis Summoning Dance
Do something educational like: "Sex and women on the internet." or "How pornography proliferates in cyberspace" Just think about all the learning you'd do.
Sorry, I'm not familiar with those other countries. Are thesis being given only during their doctorate degrees? DarkUnderLord: What software are you actually suggesting? They seem to be pure documentations only. s|aGg3r!: Forums or message boads has long been done. There are lots of them on the web and I doubt my professor would want me to put a thesis about it and make another message board such as this only with improvements. Jarinor: I'm doing this for myself. It is one of the requirements for me to graduate. Hel Khat: :-? Sheriff: Web's Impact on Music? How do I make it work? Other suggestions were Virtual Wife but its already taken, so goes with Virtual Pet, Virtual House, and Virtual Community. My classmate is working on Digital Cartography. I would really appreciate it if you guys can help me on this one.Not the whole thesis, of course. Just an idea of what I should do. Thanks!
Do that little program of the girl that strips on your desktop. Virtua Woman I think it's called, but google doesn't seem to find anything on it :-?
Al - generally, when people say "thesis", we assume it's for a dissertation. If you're looking for a thesis for a paper, then say that. Keep in mind we have no idea what you want - all you said was that you want a thesis.
Well, the web is effecting the publishing and dissemination of music in several ways. The ones that immediately occur to me are: MP3 format reducing quality of sound in "indiscernable ways" but making music more portable. Technically, this isn't an effect of the web, since MP3 is not dependent on the web, but the development of all the MPEG formats has been driven by the Internet. File sharers making music more accessible but less profitable. Technically this is the Internet rather than the web. Web publishing and distribution of new music on sites like www.peoplesound.com and www.poptones.com (an online-focused record label, supposedly) Cultural exchange leading to people being exposed to music they might otherwise never encounter. For instance, I had never heard of Bluegrass before Milo's "Let's Expand Our Musical Horizons" thread. You could even use that thread as an example, if you wanted, and analyse what exactly happened in it. E-commerce making it easier and cheaper for people to buy and sell retail music. I'm sure there are other areas of music on the web you could talk about, too. Then all you need is an angle that brings enough of them together to fill a thesis. Hmm ... How about taking the existing argument from the music industry? Labels say the web is bad for music, because it promotes piracy, making it harder for artists to make money, which could ultimately lead to fewer professional artists. Set against that is the accessibility angle that allows people to publish their own music, instead of relying on being signed by a label, to get their music heard. You'd possibly need to adjust your title from "The Web's Impact on Music" to something more specific, like "The Internet's Impact on the Music Business" or something. If you don't want to go with the music one, or don't think it's workable, what other areas of interest do you have?
